I've just downloaded the free edition of the VOB2MPG 3.0 just to try it before buying the PRO edition, and the video converted nicely but there's no audio. How do I fix that?

Moving you to our vob2mpg section.

Commercial dvd vobs or homemade from recorder/camcorder? What is the audio in the vob files(identify using mediainfo)?
Have you tried play the mpg with vlc? Still no audio?

It's a "homemade" camcorder video that I'd like to convert. And I'm a little hesitant to download the additional programs you suggest. Is there no way to accomplish this easily with audio with VOB2MPG?

Well, I certainly don't want to waste "people's precious time." And I certainly didn't wish to insult someone so important as a forum "owner." This is a technology that is completely new to me and all I want to do is understand how to accomplish what must be a fairly simple exercise. Is everyone is this forum so rude? Never mind. I'll take the issue to a professional and forget trying to learn anything from nasty expats.

    No Audio

This is 99% down to the fact that you have no AC3 DirectShow filter on your PC. Install AC3Filter and restart to solve the problem.
