Problem with recording apps hanging after sitting idle under XP Pro.

I noticed Pinnacle Studio 9.4 hanging after sitting idle for a period. It captured fine, even made movies. But if it sat for a period something happened to it. Couldn't even close it with task manager (Running XP pro).

I assumed it was an issue with Pinnacle, so I installed WinDV to capture, it started doing the same thing. If it sits idle, it becomes inoperable and you can't close it, the computer won't shut down or restart, have to hit the reset button.

I assume it's related whatever common thread there is between the two apps.

Any suggestions?
