  1. Hi all,

I have some MKV movies that include subtitles and/or non-English audio that I don't need. It wouldn't be a big deal, except every player I use defaults to having the subtitles on and using the non-Eng audio. as I understand it, MKV is a package format, so is there any way to remove these items?

    Thanks

You can try rencoding it using handbrake and just choose the audio and subtitles you wish to keep. In your case it appears to be english.

  3. Thanks, I've heard that's a good app.

I forgot to mention I have a computer on order that will include Adobe Photoshop/Premiere Elements 9. Will Premiere be able to do this too?

Install mkvtoolnix and use MKVMerge GUI (mmg.exe, assuming you're running Windows).

(Note: if you use the latest version, once you're running mmg.exe, you might want to go to the File menu and select Options. In the Options window, make sure you're in the "mmg" tab, then place a checkmark next to "Disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default". Click OK to save the settings.)

In MKVMerge GUI, just click the "add" button to the right of the "Input files:" box, and select your MKV (or alternately, just drag the MKV onto the "Input files:" box. Then, in the "Tracks, chapters and tags:" box, uncheck everything you don't want in the MKV. Make sure the "Output filename" box contains the filename you want, and where you want to save it (don't save with the same name as the input file, just in case). Finally, click on the "Start muxing" button.

This will simply re-package the MKV without the extra contents you don't want; no re-encoding is done.
