  1. I'm looking for a good Movie Collection Organizer. I have recently ripped a majority of my DVD/Blu Ray/HDDVD collection to my hard drive. I have everything categorized in folders and sub folders but I recently found a pretty cool application called Double Feature. http://doublefeature.codeplex.com/

However, this application is EXTREMELY buggy and while learning how to properly rip my movies and encode them I initially used mp4 for the regular dvd's and m2ts for the blu rays but later found mkv to be far superior. This app can't play mp4 or m2ts. Well the app itself doesn't play it. It points to a video player such as VLC or MPCHC.

Are there any decent movie organizers out there that aren't bulky but will get information for you from a source like imbd?

I found Movie Library ++ on this site and am downloading it so i'll be checking that out. I figured I'd still ask in case there is a well known secret out there.

I use Extreme Movie Manager. It's payware, but with free lifetime upgrades: http://www.binaryworks.it/extrememoviemanager/

If you have Excel on your PC and want something freeware and simple, you might also try XLFileLister. It's very fast and if you're familiar with Excel, easy to sort the info. http://www.finrepinc.com/MrktXLFileList.htm

curious...So what size drives are you using to store these files..assume h264 format...?

I have always thought that might be real nice, have 2 TB drive, and have the complete movie collection at fingertips....

Doing the math, say at 2G per movie in H264 format, that approximates to 2 TB / 2G per Movie
    1000 Movies (is that right??)

I have a 2TB hard drive (will be needing another one relatively soon), but movies will will be quite different in size. Depending on the length of the movie and the amount of action and dark scenes (dark scenes tend to need a higher bitrate to get the better quality) I get hd movies ripped to 720p anywhere from 4gb to 6.5gb. If I do a 1080p they can be up to 12-13gb (Lord of the Rings). My normal DVD's usually range from 1.4gb - 2.2gb.

Initially I was using a combination of h264 and divx, but am now solely using h264 since there is a huge quality difference.

I use anyDVD to remove the protection. I initially used DVDFab, but sometimes I have issues ripping blu rays to my harddrive. The speed will be incredibly slow on some. I then use ripbot264 to do the encoding to h264 in an mkv container.
