This is my first time here, so sorry if I am in the wrong place.![]()
I have a DVD which is no longer made. I have an APEX-5131 player. How can I make a back-up VHS videotape of this DVD for my own personal use ?
Can I just use the cables from the APEX nd put it into my Panasonic VHS VCR ? A friend said I need to change a chip inside this APEX player.
Thank you.

i saw a gizmo that you attach your dvd player to first then to your vcr , its supposed to remove the macrovision protection signal from the dvd thus enabeling you to record , it was on a web site somewhere soz i dont have the address , but i think it cost about 100 bucks

Do a search at google.com on your player - there are lot's of APEX sites out there. They can let you know if you need a chip, or it could just be some commands on the remote, or (as in my case-Apex 660) a file I burned to a cd and just put in, and the player updated itself.
What your trying to find out is how to turn the Macrovision off in your player. Then you can just plug into your VCR and hit record. -
Its called a video clarifier. A little box you run the video aux through, and it clears macrovision. Works brilliantly for vhs to vhs dubbing, but I've got varied results recording dvds to vhs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Like the above post suggested, see if your apex has a way to turn off macro.
