help - how to compile latest "nightly" ffmpeg for win32 (XP) with mingw

yes, yes, an old dead thread, but which may still have some relevance in passing for newbies trying to build ffmpeg today.

regarding cross-compiling I use a Ubuntu VM and https://github.com/rdp/ffmpeg-windows-build-helpers to build ffmpeg for windows 32&64bit

So do i, now. Ubuntu in a VM and the cross-compile build scripts work great.

Indeed, there are at least these available and which seem to work.

• Zeranoe's range of nightly pre-built static and shared builds (without opencl) at https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ and the forum talks about building (x32, x64, shared, static, dev)
• rdp's fantastic cross-compile build script at https://github.com/rdp/ffmpeg-windows-build-helpers (x32, x64, without opencl) (no executables, only a build script)
• deadsix27's cool python based cross-compile build script at https://github.com/DeadSix27/python_cross_compile_script which has many additional and updated ffmpeg library dependencies and using a fairly recent GCC (x64, with opencl) (no executables, only a build script)
• a terrible experimental hack based on newbie learning from the efforts of rdp and deadsix27 and having some updated ffmpeg library version dependencies and using a moderately recent GCC https://github.com/hydra3333/ffmpeg-windows-build-helpers-withOpenCL (x32, x64, with opencl) (no executables, only a build script)

btw. nowadays I use https://github.com/jb-alvarado/media-autobuild_suite to compile ffmpeg&co on Windows directly

Good oh.
I started to go down that path too, then decided I didn't like Visual Studio installed on my main PC as it stopped it from hibernating and bloated it a fair bit, so I rolled back.
Ubuntu was free, as was vmplayer. Personal preferences at play I suppose. If that floats your boat, then beaut.
Having said that I found a license for win in a vm, but had already put a little time into learning to play with it in ubuntu as a learning exercise.
