    yes, yes, an old dead thread, but which may still have some relevance in passing for newbies trying to build ffmpeg today.

    So do i, now. Ubuntu in a VM and the cross-compile build scripts work great.

  2. btw. nowadays I use https://github.com/jb-alvarado/media-autobuild_suite to compile ffmpeg&co on Windows directly
    users currently on my ignore list: deadrats, Stears555

    Good oh.
    I started to go down that path too, then decided I didn't like Visual Studio installed on my main PC as it stopped it from hibernating and bloated it a fair bit, so I rolled back.
    Ubuntu was free, as was vmplayer. Personal preferences at play I suppose. If that floats your boat, then beaut.
    Having said that I found a license for win in a vm, but had already put a little time into learning to play with it in ubuntu as a learning exercise.
