Video coding is a highly CPU intensive task and takes time and resources. With a P3 1.3Ghz system, I don't know that divx-->mpeg conversion can be done much faster than .5X (twice the amount of time the movie runs). This is especially true if you are using filters or the "highest motion search precision" setting in TMPGenc. As far as encoders, I can tell you that Panasonic takes forever, as does LSX, and TMPGenc is sort of a middling when it comes to speed. The fastest encoder I know of is CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder). . .problem is that it is very expensive (unless you download the crack, of course), and the input video has to be the same resolution as the output, which obviously won't work when going from divx (620x270, etc.) to S/VCD resolution. So, be patient, and exit out of all background applications (especially Virus Scanners), and don't mulit-task if possible. I always encode while I sleep. . .when I wake up the file is done. Good luck!
