  1. It really depends on what you are doing with these drives.
    Are they for a desktop/laptop computer?
    If they are, use pretty much any fast drive and just make backups in case of HDD failure.

    Now if you are talking about servers, that's different. I would use Hitachi Enterprise class hard drives.

    well just for the record, on 12/29/08 i purchased 4 of the notorious Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000333AS drives. i never updated the firmware and they still run just fine, 2 drives in 2 computers in RAID0. personally though i like western digital!
