help with tuner connection

I have a large screen monitor and want to connect a DVD recorder player with tuner to that I can watch TV on it. I have cable with a box for conversion to digital. How do I connect this??

What is the monitor's resolution, and what video connections does it provide? ...and what audio connections, assuming it has speakers?

[Edit]Also, if you hope to connect the cable box to the monitor via HDMI, is the monitor HDCP-ready? ...and by any chance is the DVD recorder one of the newer Magnavox models with an HDMI output?

Resolution is 1080 and it has all the hookups for svideo and hdmi, and the audio with those red, white, yellow plugs (forgive me I am very elementary and don't know all the "names" of everything!) I have the new magnavox but just don't know or understand how to set up and the directions are confusing me. can I use the hdmi and what about audio?? what hooks up to the converter box for cable? I admit it, I am a dummy with these things but willing to learn.

Do you have a High Def cable box with HDMI out?

What is the exact model number of the monitor?

Do you want audio to come from the monitor or other such as a surround receiver?

THe cable box only has "to tv" and "cable in" on the back of it. The monitor is a large screen (maybe 52) Westinghouse . As far as the sound, I don't care. Whatever is easiest, thru monitor. Don't know what a surround receiver is so don't guess I have one! Thanks for all the input!

Since the converter box is one of the basic no-frills DTA converters and not a standard-issue cable box, if you want to use the DVD recorder to record from it, then the simplest connection method is coax TV-out from the converter box to the DVD recorder. You will be able to record and watch whatever channel the DTA tuned to on the DVD recorder's analog channel 3 or 4. The connection to the monitor from the DVD recorder can be made using HDMI or component (red+green+blue cables) plus stero (red+white).

With the above setup, you will not be able to use the DVD recorder to record the available analog and clear QAM channels directly from cable, because there is only one coax connection available on the DVD recorder.

If you want to record the clear QAM and analog channels directly from cable, plus record from the converter box, I think I figured out a way to do it, but it is messy and inconvenient. You would be better off renting a standard-issue cable box. That way you could use its S-video or composite connections, not coax to connect to the DVD recorder. You could then split the cable from the wall to feed both the DVD recorder and the cable box. The connection to the monitor from the DVD recorder can still be made using HDMI or component (red+green+blue cables) plus stero (red+white).

So you are happy to watch standard def on a 52" screen?

I'd rent an HD cable box, then connect HDMI to the TV.
