Yes, I am having a problem trying to convert an official Dominion release to a 2 disk SVCD. Everytime I go to start TMPGEnc, it won't load the audio, and when I go to use Virtudub, it says that it has detected an improper VBR audio coding in the source avi file and will rewrite the audio header with standard cbr values during processing for better compatibility. So my question is, how can I covert the avi to mpeg with TMPGEnc or virtualdub with this problem. I have tried saving the sound as a wav file and then using that source for TMPRGEnc, but I don't get video then. Is there anyway to just rip the video? Has anyone else had problems with Dominion releases and know how to get around this problem? Please help! I am a newbie, but I know my way around a computer.
Thanks.

When you save the wav from VDub, make sure you have Full Processing Mode selected under the Audio tab - make sure the Compression setting is set to No Compression (PCM). Otherwise your resulting file will not be a real wav file (even though it will be named *.wav).
Then if you're using VDub to frameserve to CCE, load the original avi in VDub and select the new wav file as WAV Audio and you should be good to go.
If you want to use TMPG, save the audio correctly (as above) load your avi as the Video source, then the wav as the Audio source.

I have tried doing it that way, but when I go to save the Wav file, it says that the input doesn't match what I am trying to output basically. But, when ever I go to convert the movie, I don't have any problems with the audio anyways. What I am having problem with after I have ripped the audio as a wave file, is the video.
Do you think it would be better if I used CCe instead of TMPGEnc? Have you had any experience with Official Dominion rips, getting them to work either way you have listed?
Thanks -
I'm not sure if I've ever converted a Dominion divx or not.
THe only time I have problems with CCE is when I need to change the framerate from PAL to NTSC, audio loses sync and I haven't figured out a fix for that yet, so I use TMPG.
I'm still not sure what the problem is that you're having - what movie are you talking about, and how is the video (divx3,4,5) and audio (mp3,Ogg) encoded - maybe I can help you figure this out.

What is the easiest way to figure out exactly how my movies are encoded. And as for the movie name, I have quite a few different ones I am working on. Right now I am working on Dracula 2000.

I'm assuming you can play the avi fine in MediaPlayer, right?
If so, load it in WMP 6.4, right click and select Properties, click the Advanced tab, and tell me what it says in the Filters in use AND/OR the Codecs in use boxes. -
Filters in use:
1. Default Directsound Device
2. Divx Decoder Filter
3. MPEG Layer-3 Decoder
4. Video Renderer
Codecs in use:
none
Those are the only things it says in there. -
Well, its not using Ogg for audio, so I'm really not sure what the problem is...
Can you put a short test clip (just a few seconds worth) up somewhere so I can take a look at it? (Or email it - jimijames1@yahoo.com) -
ok. I can upload and send you a link to where I put a sample of the video. It won't be until after 5pm central time until I can do that, since I am at work right now.

VirtualDub has dectected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 20894 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 127.8 +/- 13.1kbps)
Does anyone know how to fix this? I have tried to save the audio to a wav file as describe with using Virtualdub, but when that happens, I get this error:
The requested audio compression is not compatable with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.
These errors happen whenever I use Virtualdub.
Now when I use TMPGEnc, I get the following errors:
"filename & path" can not open, or unsupported. This happens whenever I try to load the *.avi. I can load the video part of it fine, but the error happens whenever I try loading the audio.
And if I try to preview or even convert using either of the two programs, I don't get any audio/video, but yet the screen keeps the ratio as if the video is playing.
I have done this using the newest versions of Vitrualbud, TMPGEnc Pro, Divx 5 codecs, WMP 6.4, & the newest version of Directx8.
If anyone can see where my problem may lie, please please let me know. Oh ya, the movies I am trying to convert are from all sorts, Dominion, Vite, and just Divx releases of movies. They all play fine using WMP 6.4.
If I have left out any information that would be helpful in figuring out my problem, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!! -
Are you sure you have your audio settings correct in VDub when you're trying to save the WAV file??
I'm not being condescending here - I just want to be thorough with the following steps:
1)Open the avi in VDub v1.4.9
2)The message about VBR audio pops up
3)Go into Audio heading, select Full Processing Mode
4)Under Audio, then Compression, <No Compression (PCM)> is selected
5)Under Audio, then Conversion, all settings are set to 'No Change'
BTW, this shows you the current sample rate - under Sample Rate - No Change (should be 48000 or 44100 - let me know if it is different from one of those)
6)Lastly, under the File heading, select Save as WAV, and save.
If you are doing as outlined above, I cannot imagine why it would not work. This is happening to you for multiple avi's, so it's not some random, renegade avi file causing the problems. -
Hey I don't blame you at all. I sent an email with a word document showing you the steps I took with a print screen. I have even installed the Nimo codec pack, as another thing to try. Hope this gives you a little bit more info.

Update: I just downloaded an installed Nandub v1.0rc1. This enables me to at least see the video, but still, I get an audio error. This error is actually a little different. The menus are also different. They have what is considered secondary streams. I have tried to do each "stream" seperatly, and both together, but still the audio won't load. Now, I have read talks of like ac3 audio and things like that. This also gives an option called (VBR)MP3 under audio. Now that seems to me to start getting on the right track. So is mp3 audio vbr? I am going to try to see if I can figure out a way to rip the audio.
Oh ya, now, whenver I load the avi into this Nandub, I don't get the audio error at the beginning, which is the error about being VBR, and how much skew it is. The new errors I get are this:
1. ACM Failed to suggest audio decompression format.
2. AVIOutputWAV: The handle is invalid -
Update:
I installed the Divx 3.11 codec, and now I am starting to get somewhere. I am at least able to start ripping the audio as a wav, but I will only do like the first 969kb of the file, then stop, like that is all there is. So this is a step in the right direction. I am searching for the Divx 4.01 codec and going to install that one, if I can find it, and see if that does anything more.
Although I still get the error on TMPGEnc when I try to cnvert it, I am going to try frameserving it. The only problem with that is, once again, when I try previewing it, only that first little bit plays, then nothing else. So it seems, like I said, progress is being made. -
Another Update:
As of right now, I have got a few of the videos to work now. My Swordfish still doesn't like to produce sound, no matter which program I use. But it is at least progress that the rest of them are playing, but then, like I said before, I am running into the problem of the audio cutting out when I preview it in Vitrualdub/Nandub.
But, progress is good. It just looks like there are different codecs I have to find and install, and I keep on getting more results. But please, still anyone, give me some input -

Does anyone know the solution? I have both CCE 2.50 and 2.62 but none of these work becaudei can't load the .vdr file correctly... -
I think I may have found a solution to the problem. What I did was download a program called AVI2VCD, and with that program is another program called Decompress.exe. Run the Decompress on the AVI, then it will make an uncompressed copy of the movie. Then take that copy, using Virtualdub or some other program, resave it as a compressed AVI, otherwise your mpeg will be HUGE in size. Then just load it with TMPGEnc or whatever program you are using for conversion, and it should work. I have had luck with all of mine so far.

how can i save that uncompressed avi file in virtualdub?when i set video to full processingmode and i wanted to save it, the projected file size became 66 GB!! instead of the 1,7 gb of the uncompressed avi
