    Hello,

I just came across this forum while trying to find answers to a problem that I've been having just recently.. and I was hoping someone could help find a solution to it. I wasn't sure which forum to post this in.. I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question.

For years I've been burning multisession data DVDs with no problem. But over the past several weeks this has been happening:

I'll insert a blank DVD into my drive.. I'll add some video files to the burning program (making sure 'multisession' is always checked] and burn them to the disc. The burn always seems successful and I never see any error prompts. Both Windows and my TV's DVD player can see the video files and play them with no problem.

However.. when I try to add more video files to the disc. The burning program shows the disc as being empty and will not allow me to add any more files to it. But if I hit 'disc info' on the program.. it will show that there is a previous session on the disc.

I thought maybe it was a problem with the program I use, Nero 6 (which I've been using to burn multisession data DVDs for years with no problems). But I tried some other DVD burning programs.. and the same problem occurs.

I can't for the life of me figure out what could be going on. The DVD drive works flawlessly otherwise.. I burn audio CDs, data CDs, DVD movies and data DVDs. The only problem I have is when I try to burn a multisession DVDs.. something I've done successfully for years.

Does anyone know what cold be going on?

    What's your OS ?

Last time I looked, Parts of Nero 6 were not compatable with Vista or Windows 7.

I now occasionally use multisession Nero 6 on my XP machine for misc backups. Haven't messed with Vista or Win7.

I should have mentioned that I use the home edition of Windows XP (Service pack 3)

multisession is not supported or in the dvd spec. if it works at all it usually only allows the final session to be read.

As you said in your previous post "multisession is not supported or in the dvd spec". Okay, but then how is it that I was doing that for years with no issues?

I have been burning multisession DVDs using Nero 6 and WinXP for years with no problems, no special equipment, no special settings.

It is one of the methods I use to archive my photographs. I just leave the the DVD open and add folders as time goes by, never close or finalize the disk.

All the folders and files read back just fine even on Win7.

The DVD spec may not support multisession burns, but when did Nero worry about specs ??

I'm not understanding this AT ALL. Is the OP saying he burned multisession, unfinalized DVDs (complete with VIDEO_TS folder) and played them in a 5 year old DVD player(attached to his TV)?

Multisession DVDs are data folders/files burned to a DVD disk that is checked as not finalized. At a later date, you can insert the same DVD disk and add more folders/files. All the folders and files will show up in windows explorer. This is not a video disk, There is no VIDEO_TS structure.

That's correct.. these are AVI video files that I make with my camcorder.
The DVD player I have attached to my TV will play AVI files on disc as well as MP4s and a few other video formats.

The video player attached to my TV isn't 5 years old, it's new.
The computer and program I use to burn these files is over 5 years old.

As have I, for years.. with zero problems. Until now that is.

Same here, Windows XP and my DVD player sees the files and plays them perfectly. But to Nero 6 and any other burning program I use.. the files are invisible and the disc is unwritable. I've asked a few friends who are familiar with burning multisession DVD data discs tell me they've never come across an issue like this.

As I recall.. I used a brand of DVD-R's (Windata) that seemed to work. But I ran out and bought some Memorex DVD+Rs.. and they only worked from time to time. I went back to using DVD-R's but trying the Polaroid brand.. and they simply will not burn a multisession disc.

Could it possibly be the brand/type of DVD I'm using? That's really ALL I can come up with.

So we are really NOT talking about these discs playing in a DVD player as stated here?

Did this problem start when you changed players ?

Do multi-sessions discs that played in your old player play in the new player ?

    Yes, we are.

    Let me try to clarify..

I have an internal DVD drive ( a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202G ) which I use to burn AVI files on to a DVD.

I also have an IView-102DV DVD player hooked up to my TV that will play AVI files off a DVD disc.

When I do a multisession burn, the program I use to brun the files (Nero, etc) can't see the files on the disc and will not allow me to add more.

However.. when I click on the drive ( E: ) it shows the AVI files and plays them fine with Media Player. Also.. the IView player attached to my TV will play them as well.

I'm trying to find out ~why~ the burning programs I use can't see the files on the disc and won't allow me to add more

The old multisession discs play just fine, yes. But then so do the new ones. The problem is, I can't seem to add more files to the new discs no matter which burner program I use.
