  1. Hi,

I have used mpg movie and converted it to mpeg TS. using free Ojosoft total video converter.
Than i have played it via winsend and receive dit via StopBox aminet to LCD TV.

The quality is bad , the movie and the sound jumps and does not run smoothly.
I also changed the conversion parameters in order to fit of an HD file that runs smoothly, however not optimal also.

Pls advise what are the best parameters for conversion or should i use other sw conversion ?

    BR,

    Yoram

Post a mediainfo text view of the original source mpg file and the resulting TS. My guess is that the video was badly encoded when all it really needed was to be repackaged.

First thing to note is that neither file contains mpeg video. Your source is standard definition interlaced PAL DV, and your output is 1080p (progressive) PAL AVC.

So during your conversion you have deinterlaced the footage, and upscaled it to HD. My guess is that Total Video Convertor does both of these int he quickest, nastiest way possible, so you will never get a good quality conversion.

If you must output HD, try XmediaRecode. It takes a little longer to set up the encode while you get the padding and framing right (all of two minutes of trial and error in my case - start at around 280 on the left and right), and you might want to do some test encodes with different deinterlace settings (hint - you can set start and end points in the Preview screen for your short tests), but the results are certainly watchable. No jerkiness or jumping on playback.

If you don't have to output HD, then consider encoding at SD resolutions with high bitrates, and letting your playback hardware do all the upscaling for you.

  6. Since it's not Hi-Def to begin with, what's the point of upscaling it? Why not make an interlaced DVD like normal people, or some sort of a 720x480 MP4 or something like that?
