Hello,
I'm new here. Basicly just registered for an answer to this question.
Right,
I'd been promised a 'For Trade Only' dvd file to be sent to me by a guy through e-mail, I finally got it after a few weeks through megaupload, which is fine, I knew i'd have to wait. It is a vhs transfer of a silent 8mm film. But the guy said, he'd somehow corrupted the file doing the transfer. The corruption is in time on the video, in properties and in my media player (I use VLC) it say 2:17, when infact the video does play for 12 and a half minutes or so. Obviously the file is corrupted and I should try get another copy, he did say he'd do one but I though I'd just try here as I had to wait so long. The reason this is actually annoying is, that when I try to import it into my sony vegas, it only shows the first 2:17 because that's whats in the properties. I am actually meant to be putting audio to the entire film. I don't want suggestions of another editing program, this one is fine apart from the videos damn timecode.
now, is there anyway I can change the video files properties to make the video full length? I will watch the video and record how long it actually runs for and then edit it to that size if this is possible. There are no other errors or corruptions with the film apart from this bugged time code. I can still watch all of it but I just can't edit it.
Thanks alot.
Jordan

what format is it? you say "dvd file" , so I am assuming it's mpeg2 program stream?
use mediainfo=>view text
you can try re-wrapping it , or even demuxing them importing as elementary streams (audio & video) -
-
demux them as elementary assets; ie. m2v and ac3 (or mp2, depending on what type of audio it is)
If you are able to play them though the entire duration, that means the video and audio themselves are intact
you could use dgindex or pgcedit for example
the other approach is to re-wrap it (if for example , the error is in the timecode from muxing , then re-wrapping might fix it) . For example, you could try tsmuxer to wrap it into a transport stream (.m2ts) -
This is all very well but complicated I'm sorry, I need it as is, no conversions or have it redone, like, how can I basically just change the running time in the files properties then?
Thanks -
Demuxing just seperates the audio from the video, the process of re-muxing them back together again re-creates the time-codes and does not damage the file or change it in any way.
Since you intend to add your own audio to the file, you will need to do these things anyway.
