One of my TV's has a rather low volume output,I have to crank it upto 100% volume on some sources. I was thinking about buying a cheap set of 2.1 speakers, but then I remembered I had an old pair of powered PC spearkers in the closet,Panasonic EAB-710P's. I hooked them up and they are performing quite well, they put out almost twice the volume level of the TV's speakers. They have separate amps for cone speakers and bass speaker. I'm wondering if it would still be a good idea to buy a cheap Cyber-Acoustics 2.1 speakers?

Most HDTV sets lack analog external speaker or headphone jacks. Many have an S/PDIF stereo AC3 output intended for connection to a stereo receiver. Only a few HDTV sets pass 5.1 AC3.

Or are you feeding the speakers from a cable/sat box?

  3. I've used headphone or line-out outputs with external powered speakers in the past. I've also disconnected the internal speakers routed the wiring to external unpowered speakers instead. Both are good ways to improve the sound since TV speakers are usually pretty poor.
