I'm trying to take un-copy proteced DVDs of amateur sports and convert them to mpeg (or AVIs) and then split them into individual possessions. I downloaded the free version VOB2MPG and easily converted to an mpeg file. Then I loaded that file into "Easy Video Splitter" (from doeasier.org) and proceeded to split the file. I was able to mark the possessions I wanted but when I clicked 'split' then I got an error message that said the mpeg files were bad. I'm using Windows 7. Has anyone tried this? If this won't work I'm happy to try some other method. (eg. convert to AVI instead of mpeg?) Thx.

    Try VideoReDo for the splitting.

I did. It didn't work (and I don't think it can do multiple splits anyway.)

  4. VideoReDo will extract the video you select, I use it all the time in conjunction with VOB2MPG. You are correct that it will not do multiple splits at once, but it will do them one at a time and is the best tool for the money that will do so.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant it didn't work as I needed. Really one at a time is a show stopper for my purposes as I'm cutting up 30 minute videos into 150 segments so that could take me all day. But the great news is that I found something that in effect does both. It can mark the split points on the dvd and copy over the segments I need bypassing the need for vob2mpg in most cases. (I can still use v2m when there are multiple vobs on the dvd) Its called Torrent Video Splitter. I've played with it for a day and built an interface to use it without a mouse (never any fun clicking the mouse button only to have moved the mouse off the icon) and added a 'split' macro. A bonus is that it's cheaper solution too.
