Audacity works fine on my XP pc , also HP. But on the HP Win 7 (home, or basic?...whatever) , the app has never been able to record directly from the sound card (speakers?) The small dropdown menu about middle of the GUI , is grayed out. I can go to preferences, and choose "Microsoft Sound Mapper" Input ? , over and over. It never corrects the problem. Just noticed on this XP pc , that my sound card name is listed in that same RECORDING options box. Is that the problem ? The Win 7 pc is not identifying my sound device? And why? , if not.
>> sub-thread, but may help solving the above. Can I remove the sound devices in Dev. Mngr., then recover them on a
reboot? No discs to use for that. And, just as with this XP pc, there are always at least 2 listings under sound (and video, for
that matter). Why is that? Wait....just checked and I've been made a liar. Only "Realtek" listed other than generic sounding things.(maybe old 95 pc) However, my laptop does show 2 items; Conexant HD SmartAudio, and Nvidia High Definition Audio. WHICH is it ? Both?
