  1. first, I searched the forums for info on winxp and found zero results...

I just installed WinXP pro and now I can't open any .avi files in Tempgenc, when I try to choose a template or save project, tmpgenc stops responding... does tempgenc work with WinXP? If not, how do go that backward compatibility thing I hear about in XP... could it be my movie is bad? "SMR: collateral drainage.avi" (with Arnold Swartz.) gotten from kazaa?

    help me with XP please

The simple answer to your question is YES Windows XP and TMPGEnc do play together. I am using both, along with most of the other "tools" with no problem. Remember that XP does NOT come with an ASPI layer, you must install it. Also I have noticed that sometimes when I upgrade to a new version of TMPGEnc, I also have to use the latest VFAPI that you normally download with TMPGEnc (version 2.53 includes VFAPI already installed. Also if you have moved your files from one directory to another, they sometimes will not work. I have found that I have to re-DVD2AVI the original rips. I hope this helps.

Search the forums for aspi. A recent post titled "No ASPI with SmartRipper" posted app. 3/16 gives some details.
