I'm having Apex DVD playback quality problems with VCD's created using VCDEasy 1.0.8. The resultant VCD plays fine for a while but mid to late in the disc I get weird video pixelation, video freezes/pauses/jumps and loud, high pitched beeps in the audio track.
I rip the DVD with SmartRipper 2.41.
I frameserve with DVD2AVI version 1.76
I encode to MPEG1 with tmpgencoder Beta 12a
then author and burn with VCDEasy. (Yes, I followed the newbie guides :-)
I've created many VCD's with Nero 5.5.4.6 and haven't had this problem. Unfortunately Nero doesn't allow chapter creation and this is a major drawback.
Has anyone seen this problem? I don't know what other details to post w/o being unnecessarily verbose.

I've never had this problem you mentioned but the best way to see what is wrong, is for you to try TSCV or VCDwizard as well, they both support chapters.

I am having an almost identical problem. I was using VCD Easy to make the Bin/Cue's. But the CDRO bundled with VCD Easy didn't work so I was using CDRWinn to burn the Bins. This process worked perfectly for about a month. Then all of a sudden CDRWin would stop about 3/4 through the VCD and give me a hardware error.
To try and find out the problem I tried Xduplicator and it would burn the whole Bin file. Then I started having the same problems as the orignal poster.
If anybody has any more info on the subject I could really use the help

If you both are having the same problem burning, then I would strongly suggest you reinstall your ASPI Layer, and do NOT use the latest 4.7, only the v4.6 Build 1021! the new one causes alot of trouble.

What does Force Aspi mean.
Some more info on my problem. The same VCD's that have the problem play fine in Windows Media Player. I made the same VCD but on a CDRW and it played fine in my player. I went back to the first VCD I made (It's on a CDR) and it still playes fine on my DVD player.

Force-ASPI is a batch file that installs the files required for the ASPI, since attempting to install ASPI 4.6 would not work unless you had an Adaptec card or product in your system.
Today you can get Compel ASPI v4.6 which can install the ASPI like ForceASPI but it will work much better and will not require you to have an Adaptec product in your system.
By the way, have you checked what types of media your DVD Player can work with ? cause at times, it's not the fault of the media, but of the DVD itself.Email me for faster replies!

I'm trying to narrow down the SAME Problem.
What OS are you both running? I got Win XP Pro and since then no working VCD.
And have ether of you tried running your encoder etc in Compatability mode? -
Here's a bunch of answers (thank to all for posting athough I still have the problem).
- I use Imation CD-R's and they seem to work fine for most VCD and all PSX burns.
- What OS are you both running? WinXP Home Edition (crap)
- WinXP doesn't come with ASPI components. Thus I added the correct 4.60 build 1021 immediately.
- I installed TSCV but got ASPI missing errors. I received them initially with VCDEasy (that's how I found out that WinXP doesn't come with that software) and added the ASPI layer which fixed it.
I seem to get the video error mostly on animated movies that I ripped directed from my DVDs (Disney and Pixar).
? How do I run my encoder in Compatibility mode?
Thanks, David -
Ok where did you get your ASPI drivers at?
and Compatability can be done by right clicking the EXE and choosing properties and then compatability.
Update: I installed the 4.60 in win XP Pro and got aspi problems from nero so I uninstalled and just copied the 32 over to the system32 directory. And also copied it into the nero directory where I got errors so I put the updated nero aspi dll there. going to attempt it this way but so far it seems XP has problems with VCD burning. -
ASPI 4.60 build 1021 can be found here:
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspi32.exe
The problem isn't isolated to XP. I've burnt good VCD's on my XP system and losers on my WinME. Most of my problems have been with animated flick VCD copies.
Good luck with 4.60. It worked fine for me with VCDEasy and Nero. -
I am using VCD Easy with ASPI 4.7 under WinXP and have no troubles at all with by burnt VCDs. They run nicely on my Yamaha S-510 and Pioneer 538 stand alone DVD players. I make it a point to record the VCD at 8x speed. Funnily I found more problems when I tried burning VCDs with Nero, therefore I switched to VCD Easy. The ASPI 4.6 causes lots of problems with WinXP as it clashes with the existing layer built into WinXP. Also I reccomend using good media like Mitsubishi Super Azo, Taio Yuden, Fuji etc.

Well There is something Ether with my Burner my Aspi possibly my media. So far My VCDS stutter for a second or two in my player and my friends player(diff players) and play flawlessly on PC's so it's ether the Media(but a VCD on the exact same media works perfectly), TMpeg, Nero or my burner. I got varying results changing my layer, if I did a FULL install of the 4.6 1021 I got lots and lots of errors starting nero
Might try the 4.7 but i'm sure it's XP and Burning as my VCD made under 98 was fine. -
Just a little review guys
I am running WIN98. In late December I got a new computer that had the hardware to due (S)VCD. I transfered my old burner (only 2x write) to my new computer and installed Easy CD Creator ver 4.02 that came with the burner. It worked fine in my old computer making audio CD's, MP#'s and data CD's.
Since EzCD ver 4 doesn't support making (S)VCD's I tried VCD Easy & the bundled CdrDao. It made the Bin/Cues fine but CDRDAO would't start burning the CD it said something about missing driver. So I tried CDRWin to burn the Bin/Cue and it worked fine. I done a bunch of test using a CDRW and got the process down pat. A local store was selling Maxcell CDR's at a good price so I started using them making VCD's. They all played great on my computer or my DVD Player (APEX AD-700) for about a month and a half. Then my troubles started out of the blue CDRWin would stop burning about 3/4 of the way through the CDR and give a hardware error.
It would do this about 2 out of 3 CD's. The ones it burned to the end still played back perfectly. Someone on the form posted that XDuplicator was beter at burning Bin/Cues so I tried it. It worked and burned full VCD's but when I played these VCD's back on my DVD I had the bad pixelation and audio popping that the orginal poster reported (on the last third of the VCD only). But these VCD's play fine on my computer using the Media Player. XDuplicator reports while burning that it is using a generic driver. Ez CD ver 4 still workes for making Audio & Data CD's. I pulled out my first full VCD I made and it still playes fine on my DVD player, so the problem can't be with my Player. I tried a CDRW disc and it workes fine leading me to believe that I might have a bad box of CDR's. I bought a different brand of CDR, the first one I tried worked fine so that might be my problem but if it is I am still wondering why did CDRDao report a driver problem and CDRWin report a herdware problem

Got some more info for you.
I was making a VCD today using XDuplicator. I decided to look at all the infor that usually just scrolles by when it's starting to make a VCD.
Here is what it says:
WARNING: Enviroment varible 'Home' not defined - cannot read .cdrdao.
Cdrdao version 1.1.5 - (C) Andreas Mueller
SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
L-EC encoding library - (C) Heiko Eissfeldt
Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty
Check http://cdrdae.sourceforge.net/drivers.html#dt for current driver tables.
Using libscg version 'schily-0.5'
0,1,0: RWD RW2224 Rev 2.5
Using driver: Generic SCSI-3/MMC - Version 1.2 (options 0x0000)
Whats with the warning and why the reference to SCSI I don;t have any SCSI drives
Sherman -
All IDE (CD/CDRW/DVD/DVDRW) use the ASPI Layer (Adaptec Small Peripherals Interface) to communicate with Windows, ASPI at first was for SCSI devices, but since IDE recorders caught on very strong, they used the ASPI to translate the commands so it can communicate with the IDE.
So basicly, it's Generic-Mmc/SCSI-3, cause that's the compiancy mode, which is why we require the ASPI in Windows for all those programs to work.
Now, as for XDuplicator, it is just an interface, the actually program is still just CDRDao, what you can try is use one of the followings to correctly do a Bin/Cue file: BlindWrite, CDRWin, FireBurner.
Now, i'm curious, did any of you guys use Nero to burn the Cue/Bin ? and if you did, which version was it ?Email me for faster replies!
