  1. hi..i donno if its the right section but i m facing a serious prob..i m using htc evo 4g to record videos...it records at 720p(mpeg4 codec)...the thing is the video quality is awsome but sound is very very bad...just not acceptable...it looks as if only noise is recorded...very difficult to interpret the actual sound....its very hazzy...full of noise
please suggest me what should i do....is there any software that can eliminate this noise...any convertor which i can use to convert the video and get better sound on the converted format ? anythin else worth trying...i badly want the actual sound back !

    any help will be appreciated

    thanx..cheers !

First, do an image search on "production microphone." Look at the pictures. Then, look at the microphone on your htc evo 4g. See the difference?

You did not post a sample of the recording, but it's easy to conclude that any cheesy omnidirectional mic, especially without a windscreen, is going to pick up a lot of noise. The noise is further exacerbated by automatic gain control over the volume. Unless the sound source (such as a person speaking) is within inches of such a mic, crispness and clarity will be lost.

Various audio editors (try Audacity) and processors can perhaps filter and equalize the sound to "improve" it a bit, but nothing is going to clean up a crappy recording.

  3. Thanks for the reply
i know there is hell lot of difference between a mic on the phone and a production mic. But i would expect the mic on the phone to atleast produce decent, interpretable audio..? The sound source here in my case wasnt a person speaking..it was a live music performance(sorry forgot to mention) and my phone was both very close to the speaker and the performers...i got great video quality but audio is just not acceptable...u dont get a word of what was being sung
    Nevermind...i will give audacity a try...thanx

Also..i donno if it will help but the output video files are all .3gpp extension..is there something i can do to them...like convert to some other format and rectify the audio in some way perhaps ?

Ah -- distortion from a loud sound source overloading your mic circuitry. Nothing you can do about it.

When you're using the wrong tools, you cannot expect things to turn out right.
