I have an ASUS K42F-A1 laptop with the first generation Intel Core i3 processor and Intel HD Graphics. It does come with a HDMI-out port, but the TV I have available is an older CRT (JVC I'Art) and doesn't have an HDMI port. The TV does however have a S-Video port and component video port in addition to the standard RCA video/audio ports. There are VGA-S-video/Component video/RCA cables available, but the general consensus is that you need a converter for most computers since VGA ports often don't have the necessary "outs". However, there is evidence that Intel GMA HD does have these outs, but I am not sure. In any case, a converter is too costly for me at this time and so a cable is the only option. How do I determine if my VGA port does in fact have the necessary outs required? I tried looking at the specifications in the manual and elsewhere but none of them discussed this aspect.
Thanks.

Give us the model number of the TV.
The VGA port most likely doesn't have composite or S-Video out.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

AV-27F703 seems to be a standard def CRT TV.
ASUS K42F-A1 mentions nothing for composite or S-Video output

VGA ports on computers almost never have composite or s-video outputs. Not since the original VGA spec was updated to carry EDID info on the previously unused pins in 1994.
Some devices use the same 15 pin DIN connector to carry composite and s-video but they are not VGA ports.
And yes, the Intel GMA HD chip has the ability to output composite and s-video, just like all the ATI/AMD and NVIDIA graphics chips, but it's up to the computer manufacturer to implement those abilities on a graphics card or computer. -
I've emailed ASUS on this, and I'm expecting the worse but hoping for the best.
Thank you both for your help!
