  2. Did the audio stop working BEFORE the re-install of Windows? If not, what caused you to re-install Windows?

What type of audio device and how is it connected to the system?

Where did you get the drivers for the audio hardware and are you ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN these are the SAME drivers that were previously installed and working?

More info about the system involved ... laptop (make/model) or desktop (include motherboard make / model)

Error 10 ... usually three issues

1: Incorrect drivers ... make sure manufacturers motherboard drivers are installed first ... you may need to use an older audio driver package if the latest fails.

2: Device unable to obtain required resources ... possible conflict with another device

    3: Device failure

1: Click here then choose uk
2: Then click Download center (all products)
    3: Choose desktop > ixtreme

51 series isnt listed so you may try 52 series drivers ... or even take a look at the 5C

Audio stopped after the re-install of the window, the reason i did reinstall was not any especial, the system get quite heavy i that it is due to malware or virus, but after cleaning several time i did not find soluation, so i thought probably re-install will faster it again.

The sound driver came with the system, PackardBell IXtreme Gold 5190, that originally the system had window XP, but last year i changed it to window 7, and working perfect, sound/video/usb etc etc.

But now even i dl the driver from the PackardBell site, it is not working.

  9. Did you do an upgrade install to Windows 7, or a complete format and install? This is in reference to the FIRST Win 7 install which resulted in working audio. Was there an update to the sound drivers at that time?

Do you understand the difference between the two install methods?

Did you do the necessary research do make certain that all your hardware and drivers were compatible with the new, upgraded OS?

Was the SECOND Win7 install a complete format? This would have been necessary to remove any viruses.

My guess at this point is that you have a sound card with XP drivers that will run under Win 7 after an upgrade, but will only install under XP. Usually you can work around this by manually installing the drivers, rather than using the setup program included with them. Sometimes not.

As always, more information will result in more accurate guesses.

The drivers you downloaded, were they identified as Win 7 drivers, or XP? Were BOTH available for download?

The type of audio device is important as you may be able to get updated drivers direct from the manufacturer. Creative, Realtek, or somebody else?

Both win 7 installs SAME VERSION? Were either 64-bit?

There's also the possibility that the sound card just happened to die at this point in time.

  11. The complete format resulting in working audio indicates the built-in Win 7 drivers were, in fact, correct. This means that the second format and install should have worked, as well. Leaving out the possibility that the first was a repair install and also of some misconfiguration of the speaker connection, we are left with "the sound card died."

    LOL

I called PackardBell helpcentre, they asked if I have some other version of window than XP, I told them i update my system to Win 7, they gave me link to download Realtek audio for Vista/win 7.

And it works perfect after next restart.

    Thanks for the help, mate.

    Regards
