    Hi,

Just would like to know what is a good/best program to reduce as much as possible pixellated or blocky video output. Could be freeware, opensource, or shareware/pay. Could be a decoder but would rather have it used when converting/editing/encoding video thanks in advance. This would be for a file that already has pixellation/blocks.

Here is a sample of a video I would like to use the program for.

Honestly ? Not much will save something as over compressed and damaged as that. You could look at virtualdub and the MSU Deblocking and MSU Smart Deblocking filters. However you have to understand that all the detail is gone. The deblocking filters may reduce the appearance of the edges of the blocks, but what you will get in return is simply smooth, blurring video, not sharp details. You can't put back what very poor encoding has taken away.

  4. That deblocking worked really well. It even removed the logo!

Nice. A pity it only works if the source comes from a low res black and white security camera and the person is being reflected in the eye of a dog at the back of the frame under a full moon. Otherwise, great filter.

Where do you get the csi super deblocking filter from? I am just using this video as a test for a good deblocking/pixellation program.

it was a joke... i.e. sarcasm (that's why there was a smiley face...)

    the filter doesn't exist

Maybe you don't watch very much television, but "CSI" is a running joke about video/image enhancement that's not possible in the real world

It doesn't exist. It is a joke - just like the filters that they pretend to use to use in TV shows like CSI, that can return low quality unwatchable footage into hi def, detailed video. What he did was find a better quality version of the same clip you presented as your sample. He even gave you a link to it.

Start with the filters I posted earlier and see if it does what you need.

You also should be aware that after filtering you will have to re-encode, and if you try to use high compression to get small files, you will simply put the blockiness back and reduce the quality even further.

  9. Here are some of the AviSynth ones. I use DeBlock_QED:

    http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/External_filters#Deblocking

If the video has already been resized you could be out of luck as most of the deblockers work on the original 8x8 macroblocks.

  10. Try MSU Smart Deblocking for VirtualDub.

a reflection on a screw head sometimes works as good as the retina of a dog

I watch television just not those type of shows. I know about the msu smart deblocking filters for virtualdub, what about using ffdshow post processing filters and deband?

    Try them out

Most ffdshow filters are ported from avisynth filters

For example deband in ffdshow is from gradfun2db . You will find more customizable versions in avisynth (e.g. gradfun2dbmod, which has a dozen or so settings instead of 1 setting in ffdshow's version)

You need to play with filters and settings to optimize for each source. Every source is different. Some filters work better on some sources than others. What works well for this video, might not for another.

Pixelfusion is different, in that it attempts to more accurately predict the pixels that existed in the original high resolution source, to create a much crisper and perceptually clearer image.
    ^note the italics
try 'em all but don't expect much....you seriously need some footage to actually work with...I've discarded DV shot in foreign nations that just did not have enough quality...so all very low-quality video makes me cringe

It isn't really aimed at what you are trying to do. It is more a super sharpener and upscaler (to around 150%), not a deblocker.
