  1. I've noticed that a lot of magazines, comics and graphic novels are available in electronic format... Can anyone recommend a good color e-book reader? Since magazines, comics, graphic novels are in color, color is a prerequisite... Also the ability to read the .cbr format...

    Thanks kindly...

There isn't one yet. All of the current color ereaders use backlit screens which are hard on the eyes over long periods of reading. The makers of eInk have developed a color screen that works like their black and white ones, (using reflective ambient lighting), but it's not really ready for prime time and hasn't been adopted by any of the readers yet. There is also a competing product that I can't remember the manufacturer at the moment, that is supposed to be superior to eInk, but it also hasn't yet been adopted by any of the readers.

If you don't mind the backlit screen, a tablet PC, iPad, or the color Nook are current options, although I'm not familiar with the .cbr format.

.CBR is just .ZIP filled with jpegs that a specific reader can accept. Used for comics mostly, but not for commercial distribution. If you can find an iPad CBR reader then you should be OK. Or if you can find an Android CBR reader then the Galaxy Tab becomes an option.

There are a number of comic readers for the iPad and other platforms for commercial releases, but these are not CBR files.

Sp are you talking legitimately released material, or material acquired elsewhere ?

  4. I don't have any material yet but just looking into going that route. I buy a few magazines like ImagaineFX (http://www.imaginefx.com) & other digital arts magazines. I've been told comics and graphic novels are available in electronic format... I was under the impression .cbr was the standard fo magazines....

Surely there must be others who are interested in a good color e-book reader?

Again, I'm only interested in color...
