Correct way of muxing subtitles with mkvmerge

I'm having problems with Muxing subtitles(srt and ssa).should i use the append or add option.even though i get subtitles muxed some player's don't show them(gom,media player classic, windows media player)even if it's shown by some players(KM player,VLC)when I'm moving the player's forward button subtitle is not getting shown for sometime.is this normal for muxed subtitles or is there something wrong with the procedure i used for muxing.I used MKVMERGE GUI 4.4.0 for muxing.The subtitles here i used is srt.can anyone also explain attaching different font files(ttf) using mkvmerge coz it is also not getting displayed

use add

for font styles you have to use attachment and set MIME type

for gom, mpc, wmp, you need to install directvobsub, and use haali splitter
