I am very new to the whole world of computers. Here is what I am trying to do. I bought the cyberlink powerdirector5 and the cyberlink powerproducer 4 software. It also comes with a hardware device. I am trying to dub VCR tapes to my computer and then burn them to DVD. Initially I had problems with the audio but that is now working. Here is the problem I am currently having. I begin to record but then I get a pop up that says that I am copying copyrighted material and it ceases recording. I am not trying to record copyrighted material. These are home movies that I made years ago on a VHS camorder. Keep in mind when it comes to computers in general I am basically a kindergrdener. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Its a false signal then if they are home movies.

Either use a different capture device or invest in a tbc to correct the false macrovision signal.

It's probably cheaper to get a run of the mill sd capture card. You probably won't need anything too fancy if you intend to get just dvd in the end - especially since they are vhs and aren't hd quality to begin with.

A good used route to go would be either a hauppauge 250 or 350 pci capture card. You should be able to get a good price online used. They do not see the copyprotection signal false or real so you won't have that issue. Plus they have good mpeg2 output for easy authoring to dvd.

Hauppauge PVR-250 does not care about copy protection, and captures nicely.
