Hello everyone,
I have recorded a video on my computer using Camstudio, when saved the file was 4gb large, only able to open it in Virtualdub, in there it can only play 14 seconds of the video.
Is there anyway to fix it so I can view the full 30 minute video again?
Thanks

It was unable to open the file, it didn't really say why... it just said it failed?...
I think my computer has a 4gb limit thing for recording movies, but usually when this happens if you open the file up in Virtualdub you can view at least 15 or 30 minutes of it...
It was recorded with the compressor set to Windows Video 1, don't know if that is a help.. -
I suspect you only have the fourteen seconds of the video.
With some formats, a break in the video file can cause the playback to stop, though some programs may say it's longer. VD or AVIDemux can't seem to read past the break. Try playing it in VLC player. It can often handle corrupted video. Most times if you can't view it in VLC, it's gone.
You can also try dropping it into MediaInfo and see what it says about the length. Worst case, you can examine the video with a hex editor like VirtualDub has and see what's in there for data. If it's all zeros past fourteen seconds, there's likely no video there.
Not sure where there would be a 4GB limit unless you are using a external drive with FAT32 formatting. NTFS formating is pretty much unlimited if you have enough hard drive space.
I use FRAPS for screen capture and it uses a codec that opens in VD and likely AVIDemux with no problems. It does generate huge files, but I just join them and re-encode to Xvid. I don't know if VD or AVIDemux can handle some of the MS codecs. Not sure about 'Video 1'.Last edited by redwudz; 1st Jan 2011 at 06:27.

I opened it in Hexedit, and this is what it showed, don't know what it means, I can't scroll down either that's it:

Dropped it into Mediainfo, basically says it's a 4 gb Avi file, nothing about the length of it...
In the MPEG-7 part it says this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

The hard drive I'm using is not external and its NTFS, so I guess since its not fat32 I have no idea why it did what it did... -
Did you try import avi file to Camtasia Studio video editor?
