  1. hello there
i just wanna ask if there is any difference in terms of quality between a pc video card 1080p and a ps3. for example if i wanna watch an hd movie, would it be better if i play it through my ps3 or my 1080p video card. or there would be no difference

    thanks alot

  2. The graphics chip in the PS3 is based on the Nvidia GeForce 7800. In theory you could get just as good, if not better, playback on a computer with newer graphics chips.

Personally I think for a living room experience the ps3 is by far the best way to go. That way you don't have to mess with htpc setups.

Of course you can probably get just as good quality with the cheaper bluray only players that are now on the market. For the longest time the ps3 was the cheapest bluray player. But that is no longer the case. You can easily get bluray players under 200.00 usd and even at the 100.00 usd on super mark downs.

For me I would go the set top player route as its much more convenient.

edit - for my ps3 I use the nyko bluray remote. It is a usb adapter dongle and a small form remote control. That way you don't have to be stuck with the huge bluetooth remote that sony wants you to use. Plus the usb adapter is supposed to let you use a logitech remote or another programmable remote with it. Though I haven't used it that way myself to test (I do have a logitech harmony 520 but I never rigged it for the ps3).
