I am moving in to my new place in 2 days and want your opinions on if what I am trying to do will work...

I have a Sony SDM-S204 20" LCD monitor that has 1600x1200 resolution, 1 DVI input, and 2 VGA inputs.

I will have comcast HD cable service available to me when I move in. The back of the cable box has an HDMI output.

If I have an HDMI cable and an adapter (HDMI to DVI), and I connect the cable box to my monitor, can I watch TV on it?

P.S- I do not have a computer to use so a TV tuner is out of the question...

If anyone knows, please let me know soon as I am moving in soon... Thanks Guys

  4. If the monitor supports HDCP, maybe. If not, then a definite NO. If you don't have the manual, Google it.

Just one post is enough. Three is definitely a bit much.

Watch TV? Maybe, but it won't look good and the monitor must support HDCP.

Hear TV using the monitor? Only if the monitor has speakers and you get a 3.5mm stereo to RCA stereo adapter cable (male to male) to connect the cable box.

You need to select 720p for the cable box output because most monitors can't handle 1080i. (They aren't made to display interlaced video as a TV would be.) The only exception would be monitors equipped with TV tuners and/or standard AV inputs. The picture won't look very good because the input resolution should ideally match the monitor's native resolution, and that isn't possible.

No mention of HDCP in the specs. Unlikely since this is a 2004 monitor. Try it anyway.

1600x1200 is 16:12 aspect, not 16:9. If the above works the people in the picture will be very tall. If you aren't using it with a computer, you might be able to letterbox it with the vertical size control.

As said, only the 720p/480p settings are likely to work.
