    Hi,
After five years without any problem my Pioneer 530H recorder refused to react on the remotecontrol.
I bought new batteries for it: no results.
I bought a new remotecontrol: no results.
My wife thinks about buying a new one but....
Has anyone a good idea what to do (except asking a price for repair, that will cost as much as a new machine, I guess...)
I hope someone can give a solution!
    Grtx,
    Johan

Have you moved something in front of the infrared eye on the Pioneer unit?

There is nothing in front of what you call the red eye.
The situation is completely the same is it was the last years.
(Only the christmas tree moved in but he is in another corner of the room

  4. First question, have you changed any lights in the room? Fluorescent lights, especially the compact replacement bulbs for table lamps, often neutralize infrared remote signals and cause unexpected problems. Are there exotic lights for the tree? A color wheel, or LED string lights? These may also interfere.

Second, you might have accidentally reset the remote code frequency on either the recorder or the remote. Have you recently unplugged the recorder or reset it? This would tend to switch the receiver code back to "1", if your remote is set to "2" or "3" the recorder would then not respond to it.

Try setting the remote to each of the codes in turn, to see if one of them will match the recorder again. You set the code by pressing and holding the RETURN key, while still holding it press and hold the number "1" key for five seconds until the red LED near the top of the remote lights up. Let go of all buttons, and the remote should now be set to frequency "1".

If the remote still does not operate the recorder, repeat the above steps, trying first "2" and then "3" instead of "1". Hopefully one of these will work the recorder. If not, set the remote back to "1" again, then re-boot the recorder. With the recorder turned on, re-boot by pressing and holding the REC STOP button on the front panel, and while holding that press and hold the STANDBY/POWER button until the recorder turns off. Wait two minutes, then turn it back on: the recorder will have cleared its memory and restored all the factory original setting, including the remote system (you will need to set the clock and turn the MN recording speed option back on in the Setup menu). With the recorder rebooted and the remote control set to "1", everything should work.

If still no response, the recorder needs service (a circuit may have failed after five years).

+1 for checking any florescent lights. I was having odd problems with a few of my IR devices. I finally traced it back to a florescent light that I had recently installed near my DVDRs. Moved the light a few feet away and my problems disappeared
