i wuz told that smart ripper only ripps the vob files aint got a thing to do with subs! but im currently in the same situation as you. i cant figure out how to get the subs off all my anime dvds! and i got a bunch of em! i could ripp em with da english language but who wants a dubbed anime flick!
i know i dont! so far ive tried using DVDx but i could nt get the dang thing to sub all the episodes on my dvds! in fact it only seemed to subtitle and ripp like the first 2 1/2 minutes of the first chapter! i cant figure it out! plus the quality sucked! when there wuz more motion involved in the video i got horizontal scan lines across the screen!
and flaskmpeg, well i cant even get that to work!
oh well, if someone knows the answer for easy subtitling, please help!

You have to rip the .IFO files along with your .VOB files from the DVD. Convert your .VOBs using DVD2AVI and VFAPI - make sure to pick the approriate audio track in DVD2AVI, and Save as a Project, not as an .avi file. Then in VirtualDub, you use the VobSub plugin to read the .IFO files, and it puts the subs in properly. Then you can either save as a DiVx file, or frameserve to TMPGEnc to encode into mpg.
Smart ripper will rip all of the files off of a DVD, you just have to set it up to do it properly.
