  1. I have been importing videos to an imac i5 running imovie '09 using a Canopus ADVC-55 connected to a VCR. I have imported over 8 hours of video and edited as I've been going. All of the sudden yesterday, it won't play any of the audio for any of the imported video. Other audio will play from other clips that were imported straight from a newer video camera. I tried to import another clip from the Canopus/VCR and it won't play audio either.

The only thing that I can think of that I might have changed was I installed TiVo Desktop. I don't know if this changed the way audio is handled. I uninstalled it, but nothing changed.

I have scoured the forums and can't find anyone having the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Did you try a different Firewire source as a test?

  3. I tried to import a video through a Sony DV camera instead of the ADVC-55, and there is no audio on playback with that either. It appears to be a problem with the handling of the type of audio and I'm a novice at this stuff. I'm very confused by the fact that this audio all played fine up until yesterday, and now I can't get it to work.

Not having a Canopus ADVC-55 ( I have the bigger brother, the ADVC-100), I can only assume:

    * Your audio source hasn't changed ( VCR plays back audio out to another source, such as TV)
    * Your audio (RCA) cables are attached correctly on the box
    * You've played the ingested files via VLC from the desktop ( go to your Movies folder, and control click and go Open--> with other--> choose VLC)
and the result is the same, that their is no audio?

If outside of those things all remains the same, Can you uninstall TIVO Desktop?

  5. terryj,

Thanks for the ideas. I hadn't tried opening the clips with VLC. When I open the imovie clips with VLC, the audio plays fine, but not in imovie.

I tried to uninstall TiVo desktop, and followed the uninstall directions. I'm guessing it might have made a change to something that I didn't or don't know how to undo.

I ordered a new version of iLife and I was hoping I would be able to download it, but it's a mail out. I'm hoping it will solve the issue.

Any other ideas would be great.

    Thanks,

    Jim
