I've got a region 4 Sony DVP NS628P that was already able to play region 3 DVDs without any hacks. Can I then assume it'll play region 1 and 2 DVDs? Thanks!

I have yet to see a player capable of being locked to more than one region. I would feel pretty confident that it can play other regions if it is already playing more than one region now. That said, it is possible to tag a disc as being playable in multiple regions - we have many discs tagged as being region 2 and 4 released in Oz because half of region 2 is PAL, and we also have a surprising amount of Region 4 tagged NTSC discs because the studios are damned lazy and most players will play them out here. However if your region 3 discs is region 3 only, then I think you will be OK for the other regions as well.

Yes, the region 3 DVDs are coded only for region 3, so that's a great relief to hear. Furthermore, those region 3 DVDs are NTSC and they're playing well so hopefully I'll have no problem ordering anything from America. Thanks for that!
