as the title suggests, which video editing software do you hate the most? i recently downloaded trial versions of power director 9, ulead video studio, sony movie studio hd, elecard video editor, edius 6, adobe premiere elements 9, avs video editor, pretty much every one i could think of and after trying them all i can honestly say i hate them all, some to a greater extend than others but i wouldn't waste a dime on any of them.

so, which video editor makes you want to hurl?

  2. I know you don't mean obsolete software, but what I thought of when I saw your title was Pinnacle Studio 8. Worst ever.

Pinnacle Studio (most versions) and early versions of Premiere Pro were highly unstable. As for Premiere, anything before v6.5 has stability issues.

It seems like most people loathe Pinnacle products, so I've kept away from that. Otherwise, I don't think there is any program that can do all things that all people want. Nor do I think that editing software can be fully assessed by trial versions.

I've used or tried Pro versions of most major NLEs; some which I prefer more than others, but none that really make me want to "hurl." In the end, they're just tools. A good craftsman can make the best of what he has at his disposal.

Having edited motion picture film (synchronizing reels, scraping emulsion, cementing splices, etc.), followed by video editing on linear, multi-VCR systems, I can tell you that today everything is faster and easier than ever. No complaints here.

Premiere always gave me grief and was too unstable to rely on, so it lost me before the Pro versions came along. They seem to have a better reputation than the older versions, but I would gain little by changing horses now.

Most of the smaller editors I treat as being what they are - cheap and cheerful and not to be pushed too hard. Low expectations bring smaller regrets.
