Let me start off by saying that I haven't yet ripped and re-encoded BR's as of yet.
For a while now I've been seeing a lot of posts in various places about BD rebuilder and problems and such and invariably, it always comes down the the "tools" that you are required to use and if you don't, it won't work correctly. Seems the two main culprits are always ffdshow or avisynth. The reason for this post is to ask a question about ffdshow and avisynth. Is there somethin special about the ffdshow revision from march 2010 thats so dead on perfect that you can't use a newer updated version? and if so, why can't a newer version be revised to work with BD rebuilder? same question goes for avisynth 2.57 to version 2.58.

I took a quick look. AviSynth 2.57 is mentioned explicitly as being necessary. No mention at the top on specific versions of ffdshow being required. -
I understand that. I knew that going in to posting this thread. I'm asking why a newer version hasn't been updated to work with it by now. It's been like 9 months. Are versions of ffdshow that far apart in terms of what they do that a december 2010 version won't be the same as a march 2010? and avisynth, 2.58 is that far off of 2.57 etc
so if installing the march 2010 version still has the same playback functionalty, what if there's an update to a codec thats needed in a newer revision? sh*! outta luck? -
BD Rebuilder is still in beta. Jdobbs tries to keep the variables to a minimum as he adds features and fine tunes the program. Starting with a known quantity like a specific version of AviSynth helps with this process. You should also take into consideration that he is working on this in his spare time, basically by himself though he gets bug reports and some suggestions from other members at doom9, and he is not getting paid for this work.

Exactly, the versions recommended are the ones extensively tested. And it does matter quite a lot in view of all the reported problems on the bug report thread that come down to "wrong" versions of ffdshow/haali/avisynth.
Personally, I'd say just turn on the internal LAVF decoder in settings. You may find it speeds up encoding as well. Not that much, but enough to notice, at least for me. Even so, if you do that, Avisynth will still be called on, though ffdshow and haali will not.
Note that the LAVF decoder will not work for interlaced VC-1 or when filtering is in effect, so then BDRB will revert to using ffdshow/haali.Last edited by fritzi93; 23rd Dec 2010 at 15:02.
