  1. any ideas? it can be a free or paid solution, all I need to do is stitch clips together from different mkv files, maybe with a slide of text before each file

    Xvid4PSP has some basics I think...free
    most paid editors have a 30 day working trial you could perhaps use

    You could try AVIDemux, though that takes a little bit of getting used to. Note that MKV isn't really a container rather well-suited for editing, though. It's more of an 'end format.'
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
