I plan to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows XP Pro, and I want to back up/(Export) all my FlipVideo (MPEG-4 format) videos to an external hard drive so I can restore them later in Windows 7, after the upgrade (a clean install actually)...

However, the FlipVideo software on my PC says, "...when [the videos] are exported, they are not moved; an exact copy is made and the original stays in your Navigation Pane."

Well, if I'm going to reformat my HD prior to installing Windows 7, there won't be any originals left on the HD!

How can I get past this proprietary hangup and back up my FlipVideo files so I can restore them later in Windows 7?

    Thanks for any feedback!

  2. Not sure exactly what the problem is. I have a flip ultra HD and I copy the files all over the place. To an external drive, to an internal drive, to USB drives, etc. Just do a copy and paste the files to a external drive for archiving. I never use the flip software to move the Flip video files.

Yeah I second that. You should be able to just go My Computer > Flip (F:/) > DCIM > Video and they should all be there. If you highlight them all can you just right click, copy and go to an external drive and paste them in?
That's my usual move. I have all my media on a separate external drive and i never bother with the extra software stuff they send with cams and stuff.

TT & Nkordyjaka - Copy & Paste to an external drive sounds like the best option...
