I'm in the process of testing a new mobile encoding solution to deliver content to be streamed via a Darwin streaming server and have settled on the following setup:

Vidiator Xenon 1.5 running under Telestream Agility
MP4Box for hinting

I've encountered some problems in that encodes directly out of Vidiator will not play back at the correct aspect ratio when played back on older Real Player based handsets such as the Nokia N95 but will playback correctly when hinted using the -hint command in MP4Box.

However the MP4Box hinted files playback very choppily on Android handsets as if the video is pausing briefly and then racing on to the next keyframe whereas the files directly out of Vidiator playback perfectly on the same handsets.

Newer Real Player driven handsets such as the Nokia E5 playback both sets of files without issue.

Vidiator insist that their product is functioning to spec so the only real hope I have is finding and MP4Box syntax or another hinting solution which rectifies the issue on the Android handsets.

Can anybody offer any advice?

Thanks,

Tom
