Sorry I am new to this forum and didnt know how to post in the Philips section.

I have the DVP5990 and it cannot play the videos from my Flip camcorder or my samsung dvd recorder the model number for the samsung is sd dc164.

The videos from the samsung do not play at all not even the sound, but there are avi files.

The videos from the Flip camcoder play sound but no video, and they are mpg files.

They both say video codec not supported.

Please help, I just want to be able to view my kids Christmas program on the dvd player.

    Thanks

    Rosy Strange

The DVP5990/92 only plays standard def files 720x576 or smaller.

Codecs are listed in the manual. MPeg2, divx/xvid/wmv are supported. h.264 is not.

If yours is like mine and it files are created in mp4 format then you might try this guide https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/298094-How-to-convert-any-video-to-AVI-or-MP4-or-MK...d-in-subtitles. In my case I have a Freeagent Theater+ which does play them.
