I can't seem to find any info on using TMPGEnc to frame serve to CCE 2.50. I think this is possible, using the VFAPI tool that can be downloaded with TMPGEnc. I can't find any guides. What I would like to do is open PAL DV avi in TMPGEnc and frame serve to CCE 2.50 to create VCD/SVCD mpeg files, is this possible? TMPGEnc is the only program I can find that will open the DV files (under XP). I would like to compare the conversion quality of TMPGEnc and CCE. I cannot open the DV avi files in CCE directly because it can't find the DVSD (DV decoder?). I have searched for other posts and tried loading the Canopus codec, but its still the same, have I missed something?
After installing VFAPI with TMPGEnc, what steps do I need to frame serve to CCE? I believe that CCE will not encode audio with the video on an AMD PC (I have an Athlon 1200). If I can frame serve the video, I would encode the audio sepratley in TMPGEnc with an external encoder (Toolame 02i), then mux together in TMPGEnc.
Thanks.

I don't have an complete answer, but you might try a couple of things:
1) What codec is being used to decode DV? Search for DVSD in the rgistry. There is a dll file entry.
I thought that CCE2.5 expects VFW codecs, whereas Tmpgenc will handle directshow and VFW. If that is the case, and you only have directshow codec (Ie Microsoft's) then CCE won't be able to see it.
You can disable directshow ability in TMPGEnc to see if DV codec is
directshow.
2) The mainconcept codec (www.mainconcept.com) is a trial codec that will allow VFW decode (encoding causes watermark). You can install that codec and CCE should be able to see it.
3) I've frameserved Tmpgenc project files using VFAPI, but there is a speed hit. It would be better to encode directly.

I Use Vdub 1.4.9 (newest) and in AVIPROXY folder clicked on proxon.reg. Started to frame serve my .AVI and used CCE 2.50 (CCE 2.6 will not frame serve with vdub)

hey nike, you need to get a stand alone vfapi converter.
go to this site:
http://www.doom9.net/software2.htm
-Search the page for "VFAPI Reader Codec" and download that zip file.
-Open the zip file contents to a directory. In that dir, you will see two new subdirs: "codec" and "reader".
-In the Codec subdirectory, double click on vifpset.bat file.
-Run tmpgenc. Set the settings you would like for the video output.
-Then go to file->save project.
-Then go to the "reader" subdir from step two. Run the "VFAPIConv" file.
-Click add job. Then add the *.tpr (tmpgenc project file) you saved.
-Then click convert.
You now have a vfapi.avi file that you can add to cce.

Hi,
Does CCE 2.5 work with Windows 2000?
When I am frameserving from Vdub to CCE 2.5 and I try to add the .vdr file CCE disappears on me..
It worked perfectly fine under Win 98
TIA -
i seem to recall vdub needs to run as nt4 sp5 under win2k to feed the frameserver to cce
-
I do not need to run VD as nt4sp5 if I frameserve any wav file too. Just change avi audio to wav audio and select any .wav. This may be Athlon specific since I have to add an audio line when frameserving with Avisynth too.

Thanks Truman.
I was using no Audio thats why it was disappearing on me when I add the .vdr file to CCE .. but when I added a wav file it worked just fine !!! -
OK, thanks for all the help, I can now use VFAPI to frameserve a TMPGEnc project to CCE 2.5.
Now, can I use this to create SVCD/XSVCD's? When I mux the video and audio I get a stream error at the finish, saying there may be errors. It plays fine as a file on a cd on my Hiteker(Apex)1000 & 5131. This is because I'm trying to mux as a SVCD stream and the CCE MPV file is not?? My TMPGEnc file settings are for a SVCD (PAL template, unlocked). I assume whatever is set up in the TMPGEnc project file settings are transferrred to CCE?
CCE has nothing that allows for DVD or SVCD settings. Ulead Movie factory will not accept the file as an SVCD compatible file. I thought someone mentioned that CCE 2.64 will do SVCD?? or am I wrong.
Mr-Bojangels, I downloaded the Main Concept DV codec, and it does allow thw file to be opened directly in CCE, but still locks up if audio is selected(WinXP, Athlon 1200, 384M DDR RAM, 30G 7200 ATA100 drive). There is no speed difference between using VFAPI or direct conversions as you mentioned. I get 0.7 when converting, is this normal for my system?
I noticed blocks when the camera is moving, following some action, there are not many settings in CCE, any recommendations. Using 4 pass VBR 4500/4000/1500 with default noise filter and quality seems to minimize the noise/blocks , but I would appreciate any more info on settings.
Thanks again for the help, I look forward to more good info. -

CCE SP 2.64 do SVCD if you load a well prepared source, e.g. resolution must be 480x480/576. -
Truman,
Then what are the differences between DVD MPEG2 and SVCD MPEG 2?? Ulead Movie Factory accepts any SVCD file I create in TMPG, DVD resolution, higher bitrates, but I always use the PAL SVCD template and modify it. Do the headers/GOP/audio have an effect??(I'm guessing here), how would I prepare the file for SVCD, using TMPG or Vegas Video that I capture and edit with??
Thanks -
I think the difference is the packet size, but I am not very familar with DVD.
-
I've noticed a lot of posts from people using CCE to create MPEG's, so some must be creating VCD/SVCD etc, how is it done?? As I said before I would like to use CCE to make SVCD/XSVCD compliant files that Ulead DVD Movie factory will except. I think Nero would accept any MPEG 2 file if I turn of the compliance setting, but I would lose the chapters etc from Ulead. Soo... how do all you people use the CCE files in VCD/SVCD creation, or how can I create compliant files in CCE??
Thanks
