Ok, so I’ve been trying my best to figure this out, but can’t.. been at it all week and still lost. Wi-Fi is new to me so please forgive my lack of knowledge on this subject, thank you.
So is it possible to connect my ipod touch to my nebooks through each other’s wi-fi ? and how ?
I was able to setup my belkin routine to my netbook via wi-fi. With the netbooks win7se, it does the setup automatically. I tested connecting a usb 8-gig memery stick to the routiner’s usb printer/storage connector and it works perfect, I can see my mem sticks’ folders and files. And the belkin shows up in my wi-fi connection list (along with a buch other other people using routines and wi-fi etc) on my netbook.
Now, I would like to try and see if I can connect to my netbook and/or my routor. I must be missing something, maybe software on the iPod touch, I don’t know. All I do know is that when I setup my iPod’s wi-fi and enter my routors password into the iPod, all the info (IP addres etc) auto-fill in the iPod screen. But, I don’t’ see any files or folders or anything from the routor, but I do see a LOCK icon on the iPod’s display next to my belkin name, and there is also a check-mark next it to meaning that I am connected to the belkin, I think that’s what it means, but i'm not seeing any files or i'm missing other software to allow that, i don't know for sure, hmm..
So, what else am I missing, please enlighten me, thank you in advance.

There are alternatives to iTunes for managing an iPod, such as Winamp, MediaMonkey, etc. You do have to use iTunes, however, if you want to use the iTunes Music Store, or to Restore/update the iPod.
Yes, you can use an iPod as an external drive. (There's a setting for it somewhere in the iTunes preferences, and you can also manually switch an iPod to 'disk mode'. I'm not at a system with iTunes installed, so I couldn't tell you what the setting is, offhand - and I don't know if the button-press commands are the same for the newer iPod models. (Not that I remember what they are...) Keep in mind, though, that you can't manually add or delete songs from the iPod that way - at least, not without also manually editing the iTunes library database, and knowing what file is in what directory to begin with...
As for connecting over a network, I couldn't tell you. (translation: no idea whatsoever...)

Actually, I was trying to view my folders/files (pdf, xls, txt, etc) of my Netbook and my routor (when usb mem stick is connected to it) on iPod screen. I thought I could utilize the wi-fi for this since each device has it.
--Netbook / Routor--
I was able to connect my netbook to the belkin routor, plug in a usb mem stick, and on my netbook see the folders/files that are on the mem stick. I think after a few hours of scratch my head, i managed somehow to get win7se to set up the network/wi-fi between two devices automatically for me. I don't know how I did it, nor can i remember the steps. I know pretty much nothing about network and wi-fi and how each relate and work. All I can say is, when it comes to networking and wi-fi, it seems to me that windows 7 is not user friendly. I am trying to figure out how I networked the two (so I can make changes, etc) but am having great difficulty with all the confusing screens/links that are available as I try to navigate through the mazes of help topics in explorer and control pannel/network sharing center.
--iPod / Router / Netbook / internet-- or combination thereof
Depending on how i fudge my way around the (above mentioned control/network/share center) I managed to fudge the netbook to creating a network name and then show up on the iPod screen under the wi-fi setting screen. Yesterday, while mucking about on the netbook's network settings, on the iPod under the wi-fi settings, I did see my netbooks computer net, it said "MYVIDEOSVWXYZ-1234" it assigned a random number after the dash. But then i got worried so I shut it down real fast (i think the lock wasn't showing) and I began looking for ways to rename the computer, to something less intising but while trying to do that i messed some things up and i couldn't get my system to work properly. Today I gave another go and now things are working normal again. I changed the computer name to something easy but not temping for someone to want to rush hacking into it before i even had the chance to figure securing it etc.
--faster internet vs dialup--
due to complications, i am not able to get faster internet so dialup is still my only option. Now, i'm looking for ways to setup a wi-fi over dialup, slow but still surfable. It seems that nobody carries those Ethernet devices that I could connect to my modem and routor--I'm not sure of the term for the device.

I agree about networking on Windows 7. I have XP Pro running on 4 computers on the network and I have no trouble seeing/sharing files on all those computers. I added a Win7 computer to the network and have troubles both ways. I set it up for sharing drives and folders but other computers cannot see it. They can only see and get files if I put them in the public folder on C: under users. The Win 7 computer can see and get files from the others, however. They are all on one Group name. The Win 7 computer doesn't like to use that group name but will share with everybody on Homegroup but I can't see how to put it on the same group as everyone else and don't want to redo all the other computers.
However, back to your original question,
I wanted to use the Ipod Touch to run things on the main computer/netbook/computer using wifi. I put a router on an external computer, loaded Itunes on it, Started the IPOD Touch, went to Remote, it found the computer, I put in the code for that router, and the IPOD connected through ITUNES and all is happy. Remote operation is iffy, at times, however. the IPod does not always respond to commands entered on it or sent to the computer when I want it to. -

I did it !!! !!!
I finaly got my wi-fi and dial-up over my NetBook and iPod Touch all working !!
And, I'm typing away at this message from my kitchen!
I am so excited! Now, to get this iPod Touch screen typing down!
edit: the connection speed is no different than when i'm on dialup directly on source pc, that is good news for me, so its like nothing has changed for me. Its nice to be able to finally walk around and surf at the same time.

* current weather in ny as displayed from my iPod Touch screen
* snipped and posted here via WiFi Photo Transfer app on the iPod Touch
* (you launch the app and type in the IP address in a broswer window, then the
* window opens up with the photo roll of pictures--pretty nifty)
