Looking for Cam :: has at least a 30mm lens for wide --works fairly well in low light -- allows LANC --Not tape and not AVCHD--- using only XP Intel w/ 4gb...........We are coming from years of a Sony TRV 20 ---great camcorder just not that quality in low light>> and the 1 hour limitation.

    Any ideas

Buy a good used Sony VX-2000 or VX-2100 (includes wide lens).

For > 1 hr. record to a Focus FireStore or a laptop.

    Or this HVRDR60

The SONY is a tape cam -- so that won't work.... we film theater/orchestra /bands , many have a duration longer than a hour session . ALready have that problem for years of trying to change tape. I used 3/4 VHS in the 80's with 36 lb cameras on my shoulder and the low light meant 3pm in the afternoon

    Then forget about LANC.

    How do you use LANC?

LANC has been dropped from the newer cams.

You can record DV direct to a Focus FireStore disk or to a computer with Firewire port.

The DV recording hard drives are expensive because they need to implement a deck with user interface and control. Focus Firestore is the top brand. Still when a used DV camera + Firestore are budgeted, the cost is still less than a flash based prosumer camcorder only. Flash media is very expensive.

Further, in larger cities, you can rent a Firestore.

When recording to a laptop, I always use tapes as well for backup. Tape changes take about 20 sec.

The Canon HV20/30/40 load from the top. Not sure of the Z series.

Most of the Sony's load from the top.
