  1. On older operating systems, I used Dr. DivX, as I liked the ability to just enter a target file size and let it control the other settings. Yes, I'm lazy, and I only convert an occasional video and never cared to get more deeply involved.

    Dr. DivX doesn't work on Windows 7 (at least, not for me). Does anyone know of any (preferably freeware) programs that can do something similar? I'm open to DivX or Xvid or even, potentially, WMV -- I also miss this feature from the much better older versions of Windows Movie Maker.

    My input files in this particular case are MPEG-2, though I often have other file types, like .ts or even other AVI files.

    My apologies if this is an oft-repeated question or if I could've found the information rather quickly without having to start a new thread. I did some basic Googling, but it's late and I'm exhausted from nine hours of Christmas shopping.
