  1. Hello all,

I'd like to transcode the main feature of ripped DVDs to one MPEG-2 TS file, keeping all audio- and subpicture-PIDs intact. As bonus I'd would be perfect if I can re-arrange the audio-PIDs in such a way as to make a certain language (here: english) the first audio VLC sees.
The playout-target will be VLC under linux.

The version of Elecard's Converter Studio Pro I have tried fails miserably** on many DVDs, mostly if they contain more then a handfull of subpictures.

    Any help/pointer is greatly appreciated!

    Bet regards from snowy Germany,
    Christian.

**ie. neither VLC nor mplayer are able to play the TS at all.

VLC can "play" an ISO of a DVD as if it were a disc; that might do what you want.
Easy to rip a DVD to an ISO; then you keep all the menus, subtitles, etc.

If you want to change languages etc, then use a DVD reauthoring tool, then "burn" its output to an ISO.

  3. We already though of that, but for some reasons beyond our control (it apparently has something to do with the distribution system over which the TS files will be sent) it needs to be a single-file Transport Stream.
That is what really makes the whole thing so difficult.
