  1. I have a high spec machine (Athlon 1300, 512MB, AtA100, windows2000 NTFS etc).

I have some VHS tapes that I want to make the best possible digital copies of.

I was thinking capture at the highest setting AVI and then compress afterwards with divx or something.

Which card should I use for the capture! I don't want to spend more than £200 or so.

  2. my choices as I see it:

    Pinnacle DC10+
    ATI All-In-Wonder of some sort
    Hauppauge WinTV PVR

  3. TV card wise, avoid the WinTV GO because it is a monaural card.

A cheap TV card (w/stereo sound) will give you just as good results as a more expensive capture card such as the WinTV PVR, All-in-Wonder, etc.

What you get is a trade off. The cheaper the card, the more time you're going to have to spend to make the digital file, whether it's MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or whatever. In general, more money = less time spent.

  4. I believe the PVR is the only Hauppauge product that captures at full D1, so I doubt if many of the cheap other brand TV cards do either.
