    Hey Guys!

A friend of mine asked me to set up a new laptop and new wireless for them at their house, I'm having some issues with setting up the wireless router.

The router is a Belkin N Wireless router, connected via ethernet cable to a Zyxel 600 prestige adsl modem. I have set it up as per the insructions provided. The problem I am getting is the Modem light is always flashing orange and the internet cannot be accessed. The reason I think this is happening is because within the settings is does not have the option of PPPOA for encapsulation, but the setting given to me by the ISP is PPPOA, I asked the ISP what they suggested and they told me that they have never heard of this method of connection!

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Well, this is a major headache, my isp isn't terribly helpful with equipment setup unless it is something they provided. Having said that, you need to make sure the ADSL modem is connecting first. Does the laptop work in via ethernet when connected directly to the modem? If yes, the ADSL modem works with the Belkin out of the loop, the next thing I would do is open a command prompt and typing ipconfig /all this will give you your ip address, subnet, default gateway etc. Write down all of these numbers. The next thing is if the ADSL modem doesn't connect to the internet you may have a configuration problem (duh). You've got to get that ADSL modem working before you can tackle the Belkin, so keep that out of the loop for now. If the isp is not helpful, some are not, try setting up the Zyxel with PPPOE settings, see if it connects at that point, You've got to get the Zyxel connected to the isp before tackling the Belkin.

If the Zyxel is working without the Belkin, you need those numbers you wrote down from the ipconfig all screen. You will need to put the Belkin on the same ip subnet as the Zyxel modem. Let us know where you are at this stage and I will try to continue to help.

    Regards...

I have no idea if this will help you, but here in the USA I have to set my wireless router to bridge mode to access my ISP. I found some information on doing this via a web search (I have a very common ISP so this problem was well known). I was also connected from a DSL modem via a cable to the router.

use the reset button on the router. turn everything off. unplug the computer and router from the modem. turn on the modem. plug the router into the modem. turn on the modem. now connect the computer to the modem.

if the router can't connect to the modem, the isp may require the mac number of the device connected to the modem. you can probably clone the computer mac to the modem or call them and change it.
