I like doing a lot of video editing, i use a basic video editing app' which is Cyberlink power producer/director 3 which suites all my needs at the moment, iv just started downloading video from the net using a 'video downloader' and the video format is FLV the problem is my video editor wont import the flv file format, iv gone down the path of converting these to mpeg1 ,this seems the quickest out of all the formats but still it takes a long time, my question is does anybody know of a video editor that will accept the flv format, i do have convertxtodvd that will import flv but you cant edit the files, so what im looking for is a video editor that will:
1.Import flv files.
2.Create chapters and a menu.
3.Be able to trim, cut parts out of the video.
4.Remove/lower/add audio.
5.Add titles (like text and the begining of the video)
6.output/convert to a dvd file that will play on dvd players
it would be nice to be able to put fades and other transitions in and to be able to slow or speed up the video but these are not essential it would be also nice if it was free, but im willing to pay for this kind of app' if it exists.
Thanks all.

AviSynth (free) can do most of that. It can't add chapters and a menu which isn't the function of a video editor anyway, but of the DVD authoring program. And I usually work with the audio separately before bringing it back in during authoring. The AviSynth script can be opened in an MPEG-2 encoder for output to a DVD compliant video.

Manono: thanks for that, just for reference what would you call an application that does what iv stated.

If I were you I would let ConvertXtoDVD do it's thing and convert the flv's - (actually I would probably use avisynth for this, with tweaked deblock/denoise filters, and encode with HCenc). Then I would import the results into Mpeg Video Wizard DVD which allows trimming/adjusting & adding audio/fades & transitions/add text & titles/chapters & menus etc. MVW ain't free but it's well worth the cost IMO.

Thanks, chowmein. It looks like MPEG Video Wizard DVD allows for the import of FLV and can also do much of what talx asked. So, as you suggested he might look into it to see if it suits his needs.

Hmm, well there you go, I didn't know it accepted flv! I do know the latest version (vers 5+) uses Mainconcept encoder, so the quality will be good. There is a built-in noise-reduction in MVW, but I don't use it so can't comment sorry!
Actually I'm gonna try it out right now, I'm going to load up a flv and do some denoising and see what comes out! -
Talx:
It is uncommon to find a single program to meet your needs adequately.
May I suggest the following:
1 - For downloading and converting FLV files, get Freecorder version 4 from Applian. It automatically downloads FLV files , you can save it and then convert it to DVD Mpeg2 amongst other formats.
2 - For simple cutting, joining and a few filters you can use Avidemux. after editing you can save it as Mpeg PS stream for the DVD.
3 - For DVD authoring with menus and chapters I suggest DVDStyler.
4 - For final burn you can use ImgBurn.
I have been using these programs for years without any problem. And they are free. -
Well thank all it seems there is not one single app' which can do all i want, all your suggestions are similar to what i do now but with different apps' i just wanted to cut down the time as really looking at it im coverting the flv twice first to convert it so my video editor (cyberlink) can import it, then again when i use cyberlink to output it to dvd, surely some bright spark can come up with an application that can do it all after all flv files are becoming popular now, just another question to use converxtodvd and put an extra sound track on you got to join all the flv together before you import them into convertx' at the momement i use a little portable app' called 'Andys flv joiner' which is really quick (now im a real novice about flvs) but iv noticed that some flvs has different, i dont know what you call it but its under the heading 'video' the different names are vp6 and h263 when these are imported into the joiner a warning comes up, it does say something like '.........procede anyway' but the finished file is very dodgy i know Avidemux has an option to convert to h263 but not vp6 anybody know how i can convert to vp6 or am i way off the mark here,id like to learn more about flv files any good sites you know of, hope you dont think im taking liberties here a question within a question.

Well me & Manono already pointed you to Mpeg Video Wizard DVD, which does everything you want, including accepting flv files (you need ffdshow installed).
