  1. i want to save $$$
so i consider buying a dvdrom instead of a standalone dvdplayer.
i hav an old working fine mpeg1 hardware encoder card with s-video i/o connectors and also ati radeon all in wonder 32mb with i/o s-video connectors

i wish to transfer certain dvds into vcd format via realtime recording into mpeg1 or 2.

my initial thinking is that getting a dvdplayer, hooking its video out to my mpeg encoder input and start recording realtime.

but standlobe dvdplayer costs more. to be cost-saving, i will get a dvdrom.

once i got a dvdrom, i can playback dvd using ATI DVDPLAYER s/w, output the video fr my ati radeon s-video out into the mpeg encoder card input--->so that the encoder card will do the realtime recording.

but the logic i m considering is that : the video/picture is played back fr computer, then recording also fr the same pc and at the same time....wouldnt be this a conflicting usage of devices ?
but if u think carefully abt the ati aiw inbuilt tv tuner...i can watch tv meanwhile recording into HD at the same time...this is achieved concurrently..so if this is possible, then the previous assumption would be possible???

need experts to enligten me. thanks ya...

  2. you don't capture from your PC-DVD, you rip it. You access the movie files directly from the DVD and rip them to your HDD. Then you convert them to SVCD or VCD format. For info on how to do this, look to the column to the left, under HOW TO you'll see DVD RIP. Click that.
