Hi to you all
I have been looking all day for some software that will enable me to burn avi/xvid movies to a dvd-r for playback in a divx compatible player which will also allow me to add a menu to navigate from the dvd player.
I apologise if this question is in the wrong area but I am very new to using forums!
Will appreciated any advice.
Thank you![]()

https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-divx. But your divx dvd player might not support it...I think it's only divx ultra capable players that supports it.
Or just make a standard dvd-video, https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-dvd -
Thank you for your reply. I will have a look at the divx authoring thread

if U have divx/avi video's you don't need to do any extra authoring! Just check your players specs for supported formats. But just in case get MediaInfo and gather some info about your file, is the avi container version 1.0 or version 2.0, vhat version is the DivX codec 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 (or is it XviD) does it contain packed bitstream, what's the audio, is it ac3 or mp3 (cbr or vbr)? does your player support the above? if the awnser is yes U can use any Burning software U like, just in case burn the Disk as a mixed udf/joilet/iso_v1 compilation Nero, Ashampoo and most important ImgBurn can do this, if U're doing this for the first time be ready for some waisted Disks and most important have some fun

The OP also wants a menu to be created for the .divx/AVI videos (other than anything the player might offer). Just burning a data DVD alone with the .divx/AVI files won't accomplish that.
Then again, even with DivX Ultra-capable players, I'm still not sure that's entirely possible (if you can have a .divx file call other .divx or AVI videos, for example, without having to mux them all into a single .divx). One of these days, I'm going to have to experiment.
If you want something with a menu, it might be better to just use, say, AVStoDVD and create a DVD-Video disc, rather than a DivX/Xvid video data disc.Last edited by Ai Haibara; 14th Nov 2010 at 13:41.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -

Just my 2 cents here. I wasted a lot of time trying to get menus on my .divx files. I finally gave up and decided since my players (5990 and 5140) have file explorers that was enough of a menu for me. At the end of the day all that really mattered was the subtitles and chapters and aviaddxsubs does this easily.

Yeah, I've always just used the built-in file explorer menus on my players, too.
AVIAddXSubs supports adding chapters?

Yeah i was just checking it out and it does have an option to add chapter points by minutes.
Gonna test it out now. -
Hmm... so just automatic, by interval only? (I'm not at my main system, which has AVIAddXSubs installed.) I was hoping for perhaps the option to import an existing chapter-timing file.

Yeah, but it's better than not having any!!
Many a times i was watching an Xvid movie a couple of hours long, have to shut it off in the middle then to resume sit there and fast forward it until i got to where i left off
I still like having my idx/sub files separate but it's nice to be able to add chapter points.
Although VLC, MPCHC & PowerDVD don't see the chapter points, my philips standalone does.
Also when the subs are integrated with the Xvid only VLC see's them, the other software players don't.
There also seem to be some bugs in the header info after using it, but it does not seem to bother playback.

Right. I just prefer not to jump to 'random' chapter points, if I can help it. :P

Yeah it would be nice to be able to set specific chapter points but it's nice never the less to be able to get within a few minutes, in a few seconds, of where you left off with a few presses of a button instead of waiting a few minutes while visually fast forwarding to get to a certain point
Thanks to marioval for clueing us in
If i remember correctly the only other way to get chapters was to use the 1 or 2 programs that also created a menu for Divx Ultra standalone players, but they always seemed to re-encode everything and took like hours to do it -
AVIAddXSubs is as close as I've come to a DivX Ultra authoring program, anyway (despite having about three Ultra-capable players in the house (unless I start counting computers)).
