Is this is Canadian TV? In that case, it's metric, so double it and add 30 for the equivalent measurement.

When the French/British Concordes were streaking across the big pond at around mach 2, the humans inside actually experienced some metabolic changes, and the aircraft themselves were actually elongated approximately 20 inches at full mach. So... based on this knowledge, it is quite possible that the TV was slowing in speed while the box was accelerating when the measurement was taken...

It's actually a secret ploy by Obama! ... Or the Tea Party!
hmmmm......
Maybe it's both of them in collusion!!!! With reptile aliens acting as the invisible hand!!!
... looks out window at that odd car across street,
... cleans and re-loads shotgun, just in case,
... re-adjusts tinfoil hat to keep the MLB satellite from spying on me
Nobody's going to shrink my TV!

If the OP is serious and he sounds serious, I cannot fully blame him. If I have NO prior knowledge of how it is measured, I would also perceive the measurement as horizontally. My eyes will never look at these diagonally. Do we see an 8 ft. long dining table as 10 or 12 ft.(?) diagonally? There were people who complained about the size of their hard drive or the DVD media being less than the printed on the labels. Almost the same thing. No big deal (to me). It is not a sign of inferior intellect like being insinuated here many times. He could be a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist but without prior knowledge, he will conclude things according to his perceptions. BTW, it's only manufacturers' sales strategy. To make it bigger and longer.

This is funny and kind of the opposite, About a month ago my daughter was going to buy a oak entertainment center from one of her friends grandma who was going to be moving to florida.
She has it just sitting on one of those big stands with shelves under the tv, the plain one's that usually come with the TV.
So my daughter measures her 36" tv from side to side, to make sure it will fit in the opening of the EC, tells her friend the measurement, now her TV is a huge @$$ crt tube tv and it's pretty wide because it has speakers on the side's built in facing forward.
She told her friend the measurement, well her friend measures the hole in the EC diagonally, my daughter did not know she measured it that way, her friend say's yeah it will fit!
My daughter gets there to pick it up and decides to measure it herself, it won't fit because her friend measured the hole the way you would measure the TV screen/tube

"a sign of inferior intellect like being insinuated here many times."
I don't recall seing a SINGLE post suggesting the OP was of "inferior intellect". I saw very creative and humorous posts directed at the measurement NOT the OP.
I can see this devolving from here from what was an intelligent question, immediately responded to with the 2nd post by the mod, and a run at people having a good time with the measurement. NOWHERE was the OP's intellect questioned! -
We've all said boneheaded things, that's why it was so funny.
I find it impossible to believe a 9-year member here doesn't know how a TV is measured. Maybe dafoe was hot to go for the new HDTV and just wasn't thinking straight. Doesn't make someone stupid. I hope dafoe takes a little ribbing in good part.Pull! Bang! Darn! -

But this aside some more important questions need to be asked.
1. Has the OP actually managed to get this monster out of the box ?
2. Did the crane required to lift it negotiate the 20 flights of stairs as the lift was too small. ?
3. Did that wall actually support the weight or has the OP now actually seen his neighbours. ?
This has been a tongue-in-cheek-post as my 73 cm brain rarely fits my 67 cm head. -
edong you never had a case, at least in the legal or argumentative sense.

Yep!!!
Not to mention we have all done boneheaded things!!!
I just did a doozy of one tonight working on a laptop!!!
It made me think right away of this thread and about starting a new thread in OT on some of the more boneheaded things we have done or the most obvious things we have missed!!!
LOL!!!
