    Laggy .MOV playback in Virtualdub

    Hi All,

I'm getting very laggy playback when trying to open a 720p 60fps .MOV in VirtualDub. The footage plays fine in Quicktime and in WMP.

VirtualDub is at it's default settings, and I have installed the Quicktime plugin and set the Mode=2 in the Quicktime.ini (otherwise I just get a green screen in Virtualdub and playback results in Virtualdub crashing!).

Any ideas on how to improve performace?

    I'm running Win7 64bit, on an Intel Core2Duo 6600 @ 3.2Ghz, 4GB RAM, Gigabyte 9800GTX 1GB.

    Cheers,
    a1ienz.

Virtualdub is not a video player. Or do you get laggy playback after exported from virtualdub?

Well I get both... the playback is laggy but the output is laggy too.. audio is choppy and the video looks like it's in slow motion almost.

What compression codecs did you use for the output file? And just to be clear -- you use File -> Save as AVI to create an AVI file with the above compression and that AVI file plays back jerky in a media player?

yep file then save as avi. All settings are default so it's saving without any compression codecs.

That may be your problem. Without compression the hard drive is usually not fast enough to get smooth playback. Unless you are using small frame sizes.
